This weekend is Blowing Rock’s celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Christopher’s Wine & Cheese is always thrilled to have a good opportunity to celebrate with you… and this affords us a premium opportunity I think!
As part of the celebration we will be conducting one of our favorite programs this Friday night… a cooking demo with wine pairings! Because of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s 75th anniversary and the fact that Blowing Rock, North Carolina was the only town that was on the path of the Blue Ridge Parkway at the time it was built, in conjunction with Blowing Rock today being celebrated as a destination for culinary tourism…. We have decided to celebrate with a demonstration of cooking with foods that were common in the Appalachian Region during that period. That means a lot of vegetables.
However, unlike 75 years ago we wil not be using a lot of fat for flavors. We will be taking the raw ingredients and putting a spin on them that is fresh, flavorful and wine friendly (of course). On the table we will find squash, cabbage, and beets along with a ton of fresh clean, crisp herbs and spices all with the wines Christopher selects to pair out with them.
And never fear the thoughts that you don’t like beets or the other veggies… Christopher has come up with some creative spins on each to reset your palate to make this a fun and exciting journey sure to please even the three year old in each of us…and scare the _____ out of the average vegetarian!
