Hatzidakis Santorini – from the wine virgin

The second wine of the night was also a white – Hatzidakis Santorini. Like the previous wine, this was also from Greece. In my opinion, this wine was not as good as the first wine in taste or smell. Obviously, the grape is different even though the region is the same. It was an interesting tasting wine nevertheless.

Much like many white wines, the smell and taste were of citrus. At first taste and smell, a lemon scent was evident. However, the tasting ended with a faint musky taste that was quite unusual. One good thing about this wine was that it didn’t taste as acidic as the first. Now don’t get me wrong, the first was definitely not a very acidic wine, but compared to this one – the Santorini was a bit smoother. I understand that these were completely different grapes (but from the same region). However, as far as taste, the Nasiakos was far more superior and memorable.

The musky taste could be from the mineral content of this wine. At the tasting, we were told of the mineral complexity of this particular wine. I looked up this wine and it is made on a volcanic island, so this musky taste makes sense and adds to its uniqueness.
