kriter eclat carmin rose – from the wine virgin

The first wine of the Valentine’s Day event was a sparkling eclat carmin rose made by Kriter. As all previous sparkling wines I have tasted, the carbonation was evident; however, it wasn’t quite as bubbly as the other ones I have tried. It still made me want cheese or crackers with it. As I was told last week, the carbonation makes the fat of cheeses burn off so it is able to be tasted more easily by the tongue. I think the more bubbly a sparkling wine is, the more that my tongue, in particular, wants cheese – or some kind of food.

Nevertheless, this wine wasn’t an over powerful sparkling rose. The carbonation was light enough where the flavor could be enjoyed. The wine tasted of sweet fruits – raspberries, cherries – but it definitely smelled a lot fruitier than it tasted. An interesting aspect of the Kriter was that the taste was almost a little smokey. Before tonight, I wouldn’t have considered any sparkling wines ‘smokey.’ I was glad to have tried this one since I felt like the taste was very interesting. I’m hoping that as my time here at Christopher’s Wine & Cheese progresses, I’ll have the opportunity to try some even more interesting sparkling wines.
