amano primitivo – from the wine virgin

The first wine of the evening was Amano Primitivo from Italy. The smell of this wine was extremely delightful. It smelled of very sweet, rich plums. It was extremely fruit-forward. The smell was definitely a lot more complex than the the taste. The taste was good, but very light – and fruity. It was what I expected from the smell, but just was very balanced, making for a light wine.

Although the taste was very fruity and light, it did have a small aftertaste kick of pepper in the finishing. I thought this was an interesting (and favorable) aspect of the Amano. The next wine of the evening was similar to the Amano, except it had a bit more earthy smell and taste. Going back to the Amana after the next one, the sweetness was enhanced even more. All in all, it was an interesting wine, and a very light, fruity Zinfandel.
