Sonoma Seghesio Zinfandel – from the wine virgin

Sonoma Seghesio Zinfandel was one of my favorites of the night, which was interesting because it seemed like the underdog when everyone voted on their favorites. The scent was almost “warm” in a way. The scent was warmed in a way so that the fruity, jammy flavors seeped out of the wine. Their was also a hint of sourness in the scent that was also mimicked in taste.

The taste was similar to the smell, but not quite as strong. Chris said that this particular wine “pushes the tongue back” with its flavor, and I could definitely see this description. The sourness in the wine was evident, but I felt like it was needed. It wasn’t sour as to the point of being tart, but it did make you pucker a little bit. I like sour tasting foods and drinks, so maybe this is why I took a liking to the Seghesio. A small kick of spice was in the finishing, but overall the finishing wasn’t as bold as some others.
