ancient peaks zinfandel – from the wine virgin

One of the ultimate favorites of the night was also one of the last wines tasted. Ancient Peaks Zinfandel was the crowd pleaser, of many. While it was quite tasty, I don’t know if it would be my personal favorite of the night. The smell was very concentrated and bold, like some previous wines. It was also of dark berries, but with a small spice of vanilla.

When tasting the wine, it was also a bit concentrated and not as flavorful as some of the previous Zinfandels. Again, this could be because of my “immature palate” and inability to pick out subtle flavors in comparison to bold and explosive ones. I did feel like there was a small blast of pepper in the finishing, but it didn’t make the finish too strong.

All in all, the evening was a very fun experience. It was fun to learn from others, and fun to try a new and exciting wine. Last friday was Masterful Blends, which showcased some of the best blends of Christopher’s Wine  & Cheese. Blends is another type of wine I am not too familiar with, so check back this week to see how the evening went!
