petit caprice – from the wine virgin

Petit Caprice, a Grenache/Syrah was the first red blend of the evening. Before even tasting this wine, someone attending the event said it was one of their favorites, so I was eager to try this wine. It reminded me a bit of the Petit Sirah’s we tried at the Syrah/Shiraz tasting a few weeks ago.

The smell wasn’t very strong, but had a small earthy, jammy smell. The taste was the same – not very strong in my opinion. When I tasted the Petit Sirahs I was told about having an ‘immature palate’ and not being able to pick out small, subtle flavors – so this could have been the case as well. Overall, it was a very light wine, but still flavorful in some aspects in my opinion. I’m not sure if I have ever had a grenache wine, but apparently it is what adds the “backbone” to the wine and brought the flavors back together. I can see this because the jammy/fruitiness of the syrah was evident and danced around a bit until the finishing.

The next wine of the night was one of my favorites, so check back tomorrow!
