Wolftrap red blend – from the wine virgin

The last wine of the evening followed the pattern of the bold, fruity red blends. Wolftrap, a blend of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Viognier, was also a favorite of mine. It had the same bold, spicy, jammy smell of the previous red blends; however, there was a small, subtle hint of vanilla as well. It reminded me a lot of the Donati, but with vanilla.

The taste was similar to the smell, and I was very surprised to find it to be quite smooth considering all of the different spices and flavors. The smokiness of the wine subdued the berry flavor at times, and then when I swallowed the berries and spice exploded. I really like wines that can be complex in taste but also smooth tasting at the same time, and the Wolftrap red blend did this wonderfully.

One of my friends attending the event even informed after the night was over that she saw that Wolftrap was featured in Cosmo magazine for being a great wine to pair with a variety of dishes. So it’s interesting to learn and know that we are trying some popular wines.
