Wine: Swine Wine

EIEIO Swine Wine

EIEIO Swine Wine

There are just some things in life that are too much fun to pass by. Swine wine is one of those items; no one enters our little shop that fails to notice this bottle sitting upon the top of the pinot noir case. This is one of those instances that the bottle is almost too cute for it’s own good with a pink pig plastered over a gray diamond and the wine being titled Swine wine. Regardless of the number of people in the shop (and the more the better!) I always make certain to elaborate on the bottle and the rest of the story. I explain that the it’s swine wine, a fine pinot noir from the EIEIO Vineyards of the Willamette Valley of Oregon. After they chuckle about that I challenge them to guess the name of the family which own the vineyards and winery with about half of the participants realizing that it is the McDonald family and then point out they can see the first bar of “Old McDonald Had a Farm” stamped on the side of the cork.

Of course, with their attention caught, they then inquire about the wine and it’s quality. I proudly share my opinion of the wine being a big explosive wine that deserves care and decanting to fully open to its potential.

The wine maker’s notes follow, and are spot on with my personal opinion:

The most popular bottling of EIEIO & Company; this wine is more than just a great label, it’s also a great Pinot Noir. This wine is distinguished by the slightly macerated and smoky nature of black currant and plum scents and flavors and a smoked meat component that is ridiculously enticing. The smoky gaminess is balanced by floral tones of lilac and hyacinth and acid is matched with some pretty stout support in the form of earthy, minerally tannins and more ephemeral autumnal qualities like the smoke from burning autumn leaves.

So, if you’re into great Pinot Noir, give this one a swirl around your glass soon! It’s limited production and a bit hard to find, but certainly worth the effort right down to the very last drop!! If you can’t find it in your local market, give me a call at 828-414-9111 and we’ll make arrangements for you to get a bottle shipped out to you.
