Wine: Paraduxx

Duckhorn Vineyards consistently makes great wines year after year. I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who walk in and gravitate towards the one bottle with a postage stamp of a duck on the bottle and swoon as though they have become a little school girl in love with a wine they have tried once several years back at dinner party. Now, I am amazed, but totally understand it as I have a rather intimate affair with this wine myself… and will swoon at the aromas that explode when the cork is pulled from the bottle. Duckhorn Paraduxx is not what I consider an inexpensive wine approaching $50 at the moment, but it is what I deem an exceptional value for the quality of the wine and its ability to drink not only today, but age gracefully generating an evolution of flavor profiles rivaled by few wines at twice the cost. As the corck is removed an explosion of aromas will perpetuate the air with a cedar clove spiciness transcending into jammy berries and cherries. As it I s poured, the aromas will intensify with hints of cocoa and sage and hues of deep ruby will captivate the eyes enhancing the desire to saturate your tongue in the nectar of Napa Valley. Once you pull this nectar from the glass across your palate the sheer joy that is wine tasting will certainly take over all your ethereal senses. A rich jammy blackberry essence will captivate the fore of the tongue erupting into bright fresh juicy blackberries and red cherries on the mid-palate with herbaceous notes of sage and cinnamon mingled with bright pepper on the finish. If there is any irony to this wine, it is that the perfect pairing for myself is a a roasted duck with a cranberry-citrus glaze. Drink now through the next decade and marvel at the joy that is paraduxx!
