Wine: Bourgeois Family Selections Drunk Rooster Chardonay

Drunk Rooster Chardonay

Phillipe and Stephie Bourgeois are not only importers of fine French Wines; nor are they only negotiants of fine French Wines; Nor are they only wine makers of Fine French Wines. Phillipe and Stephie are among some of my favorite friends in the wine industry. I have tried their wines from the finest Bourgognes that are a value at just under $100 to the “Drunk Rooster” that consistently comes in under $15.

Now, there is no comparison between those two bottles, and both are extraordinarily great values for the quality in the bottle! But I have a fondness for quality that exceeds the value when it comes to a bottle of wine and with that in mind there are few values anywhere in the world that can compete with the their “Drunk Rooster” line. The chardonnay of this line truly exceeds any expectations I have for a $15 bottle of wine; totally unoaked and brilliantly crisp and clean this is a wine in private blind tastings always out preforms other wines that are double and triple the price point. Lesson to be learned from the Bourgeois Family, never judge any wine by the price point… rather judge by the experience of that wine in your glass!

Their notes on this wine are far better than mine:

The rooster wakes up your palate with a combination of fruit and great acidity. Lots of green and citrus aromas, including pineapple and lemon on the nose, with a hint of spice. Medium-bodied and balanced, it has straightforward, juicy tropical and citrus flavors and, a clean, refreshing finish. Great with lighter cuisine or for sipping.

Best served chilled or around 50°F with sauced fish, Indian/Chinese cuisine, or fresh goat cheese. This wine marries perfectly with duck breast cooked with green apples and accentuates the bond between the rich and lively green flavors.

Aged in stainless steel tank for 8 months including 3 months on its fine lees.

100% Chardonnay unoaked
